Hidden Passages

Ashford town centre has a number of passage and alley ways, remnants of it's medieval origins, spaces that exist but at the same time do not, many are not named on any map.

Hidden Passages, a contemporary art project that looked to re-discover these spaces, their history and uses and overlay that with the alternative definitions of the word passage, to create a series of site specific art installations and interventions.

Forming Ashford's 4th annual Art & Architecture Festival, Hidden Passages created temporary art works along with a dynamic outdoor performance that drew together local groups in celebrating Ashford's Hidden Passages and the town's unique make up.

One of the Leap Years programme of site specific contemporary arts in East Kent, planned in the context of the Cultural Olympiad and culminating in Spring 2012. Hidden Passages aimed to inspire and to involve young people, generate a positive legacy and develop an exciting spectacle of excellence and high quality, creating partnerships and links on which to build future projects over the coming years to 2012, and beyond.
